MAWLANA SHEIK NAZIM (ق)

About Him

Sheik Nazim Adil al-Haqqani (ق) is current living world leader, and the 40th master of the Naqshbandi-Haqqani Golden Chain of Sufis. Under his enlightened leadership, the teachings of the Golden Chain remain as attractive to seekers of the Truth today as they were a thousand years ago. The order remains an oasis of peace in a world of suffering and conflict. Its members are pacifist in nature and have always been champions of religious tolerance. Followers of the Naqshbandi Way are community builders who aspire to establish a higher quality of life based on the consciousness of God. As a beloved Friend of God (wali), Sheik Nazim epitomizes this philosophy. He is known throughout the world for his unceasing efforts to build goodwill and unify diverse peoples and groups in the Oneness of God.

His Master

Sheik Nazim (ق) studied the Sufi discipline under Shaykh Abdullah Daghestani (ق).

He describes his first meeting, “His unusual appearance immediately attracted me. I had never seen such a Shaykh before. Light poured from his face and forehead. He said to me, 'O my son, we have power that in one second we can make our follower reach his spiritual station.’ As soon as he said that he looked into my heart with his eyes, and as he did so they turned from yellow to red, then to white, then to green and black. The color of his eyes changed as he poured into my heart the knowledge associated with each color.” After spending 40 years under his master’s guidance, going through intense and lengthy seclusions and accomplishing intense spiritual tasks, Sheik Nazim (ق) was given permission by Shaykh Abdullah (ق) to begin guiding disciples on the Sufi Path.
With his master’s passing in 1973, Sheik Nazim (ق) inherited the cloak of the order, becoming its leader.

His Accomplishments

Following his first visit to the West in 1974 with annual visits to England and Europe during and after Ramadan, the Naqshbandi Order spread quickly, reaching all of Europe, together with the United States, Canada and South America. He opened centers in London for training people in the ways of spirituality, removing their depression and lifting them to a state of peace in their hearts. His teachings continued to spread to all parts of Europe, North Africa, Southern Africa, the Gulf countries, America, North and South, the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, Russia and parts of China, Australia and New Zealand.
His deputies, Shaykh Hisham Kabbani (ق) and Shaykh Adnan Kabbani (ق), continue Sheik Nazim (ق)’s unremitting work, establishing center for teaching, the remembrance of God and the establishment of civil society in nations far and near.
Today, there is not a continent on earth where Sheik Nazim (ق)’s teachings have not reached. He continues to work tirelessly for the cause of peace, compassion and the brotherhood of humankind which enables our higher character and ennobles us with the desire to help others. Speaking by video to a global audience, Sheik Nazim (ق)’s teachings serve to inspire the many students and seekers who tune in and listen to the noble timeless Sufi wisdom he imparts every day from his humble home in Cyprus.
